"Skin Tone Master Profiles" v1.5
A revolutionary way to get the skin tones you want for your images in seconds.

Overview

"Skin Tone Master Profiles" v1.5 is a collection of color profiles in *.icc and/or *.icm format, packed inside a setup program that facilitates their incorporation into the operating system and later to be used in applications for editing and retouching images that accept advanced color management, such as Photoshop application.

This collection of color profiles will establish a revolutionary way to get the skin tones you want for your images in seconds.

The typical use of color profiles is found on color management. Color management consists in keeping the consistency-correspondence-likeness of color appearance in relation with the numerical values of color from a digital image across platforms; between operating systems, devices, image editing applications and color spaces. For example, through an accurate color management, the colors of a digital photo from a camera should be seen very similar on a CRT monitor, on a LCD screen, as a printed photo or as an inkjet printing. Color management helps get the same color appearance on all these devices and materials.

—Typical Usage       : Device source color space —> A Profile connection space (PCS) —> Device target color space

The revolutionary usage of color profiles that "Skin Tone Master Profiles" make use of is for color transformations and corrections, and specifically to achieve the perfect skin tones or to the taste of each person, within applications like, for example, Photoshop. Generally, the color profiles are produced specifically for this or that color space or device, whether they are used for input, display or output, to allow the interpretation of the numerical values of the color from a digital image and to be able to properly represent its color appearance.

In contrast, "Skin Tone Master Profiles" are produced with particular characteristics and attributes, and device-independent and color-space-independent to some extent, that allow a new, special, creative, dynamic and interactive interpretation of the numerical values of the color from that same digital image, with emphasis on the numerical values related to skin tones.

Once you find the new and proper interpretation (the profile or profiles that are adequate), or to the taste of each person, resulting a new, special and creative color appearance, follow the other procedure to change the numerical values of color from that digital image to reflect the new, special and creative color appearance, and in this way, consolidating  the color transformation, adjustment and/or correction of that digital image. Therefore, you get the skin tone or skin tones you wanted for that digital image.

There are two basic ways to apply the "Skin Tone Master Profiles". The direct method allows the preview of the resulting effect, while the inverse method does not allow this preview, and also produces the inverse effect.

—Revolutionary Usage : Working space —> A color space from Skin Tone Master Profiles             —> Convert Back to Working space

—Direct Method         : Working space —> Assign Profile (one from Skin Tone Master Profiles)     —> Convert to Profile (Back to Working space)

—Inverse Method       : Working space —> Convert to Profile (one from Skin Tone Master Profiles) —> Assign Profile (Back to Working space)

Getting perfect skin tones or to the taste of each person is critical, however, with "Skin Tone Master Profiles" is easy to get the desired skin tones for your images. Color profiles from "Skin Tone Master Profiles" will be the best Add-ons for Photoshop and the best support for fashion, beauty, portrait and wedding photographers. We are certain you will love "Skin Tone Master Profiles".

Installation

Just run the setup file and follow the instructions of the setup wizard.

Access

Once installed the ICC color profiles of "Skin Tone Master Profiles", they can be accessed from the Adobe Photoshop program.

1) From the Image menu if you use version 6, 7, or 8-CS.

Image > Mode > Assign profile... > open Drop-down List.

2) From the Edit menu if you use version 9-CS2, 10-CS3, 11-CS4, or 12-CS5.

Edit > Assign profile... > open Drop-down List.

Those profiles have names that begin with "Skin Tone Master Profiles".

Application Mode

—Direct Method         : Working space —> Assign Profile (one from Skin Tone Master Profiles)     —> Convert to Profile (Back to Working space)

To use or apply the profiles in an image, proceed as follows. Direct Method.

1) Open image in Photoshop. Be careful to do it properly and that it is in the Working color space or Working space that is considered appropriate.

2) Edit > Assign Profile... > Open the Drop-down list> click one of the profiles of "Skin Tone Master Profiles" and scroll up or down through these profiles with the mouse scroll wheel, while watching the changes of gamma (correction) and skin tone that occur in the image when changing the selection from one profile to another. Preview option-box must be selected.

The point here is to find a profile that produces —a level of gamma and skin-tone— close to the one you are looking for (can be anyone and in no fix order, just experiment). Once you find this profile (which is selected), we click OK and continue with the next step.

3) Edit > Convert to Profile... > Open the Drop-down list from Destination space and select, usually, the Working RGB, CMYK, or grayscale space that it is being used. Click on OK.

4) Repeat steps —2 and 3— until the image have —the level of gamma and skin-tone— you are looking for. The first time you apply the steps —2 and 3— prepares the way, the second time produces the miracle and the third time gives the final touch. It is not a general rule, depends on the image and the taste of each person.

5) Save image. Of course, if you wish, you can make other adjustments to the image before saving.

Once you save the image after applying the direct method, you can step back and reach the "original" state of the image... you should write down the names of the color profiles assigned in step 2 of the direct method and the order used. And follow the Inverse Method.

—Inverse Method       : Working space —> Convert to Profile (one from Skin Tone Master Profiles) —> Assign Profile (Back to Working space)

1) Open image in Photoshop.

2) Edit > Convert to Profile... > Open the Drop-down list> click the name of the last profile assigned in step 2 of the direct method. Click on OK and continue with the next step.

3) Edit > Assign Profile... > Open the Drop-down list from Destination space and select the Working space used. Click OK.

4) Repeat steps —2 and 3— depending on the state to which we wish to return. It Would be, for example, the penultimate profile assigned in step 2 of the direct method and then assign Working space.

5) Save image... if desired. The inverse method is mentioned as a reference and a possibility for using these color profiles.

General Things

1) Color Profile or ICC Profile: Each profile is a set of reference data used for the interpretation of the numerical values of the colors of the pixels from an image according to standards promulgated by the International Color Consortium (ICC). Profiles can be for Input, Output, Display devices, etc..

2) Assign Profile... : This operation changes the appearance of the colors of an image seen on the monitor screen, but keeps the numerical values of the colors of the pixels from that image unaltered.

3) Convert to Profile... : This operation changes the numerical values of the colors of the pixels of an image (from a Source space to a Working space, from a Working space to a Destination space) in such a way that maintains the appearance of the colors of that image seen on the monitor screen without significant alterations.

4) Color appearance: The appearance of the colors of an image seen on the monitor screen.

5) The color values: The numerical values of the colors of the pixels of an image.

6) Take into account the embedded profile when opening images in Photoshop, so that the numerical values of the colors of the image pixels are considered initially in its original (or origin) interpretation.

7) Be aware that converting a digital image from a specific color space to another color space with less gamut, you lose some color information. This can be viewed on the color histogram in Photoshop. As a reference, it is known that the gamut of sRGB color space is smaller than the gamut of Adobe RGB (1998) color space, that the gamut of Adobe RGB (1998) color space is smaller than the gamut of Wide Gamut RGB color space, and that the gamut of Wide Gamut RGB color space is smaller than the gamut of ProPhoto RGB color space. The idea is to stay within the same Working color space until it is make necessary or inevitable to convert between color spaces.
